Russell’s Reserve is a premium, higher-aged offering from Wild Turkey that is non-chill filtered and bottled at 110 proof. This particular bottling was selected by Total Wine & More of Washington from rickhouse H, floor 7, barrel #2460.
Sensibles: The nose is herbal and spicy and not at all hot. Clove, cinnamon, caramel, and brown sugar are the major smells with a bit of musty oak and milk chocolate thrown in. The taste is full-bodied and rich, with lots of classic caramel and vanilla, more chocolate, honey, and charred oak. Not too much of the herbal nose appears here, which is fine by me as the taste is wonderful without it. The finish is medium-length and sweet with more vanilla wrapping things up. A great bourbon andddddd I’m now intoxicated….great. Very very sneaky…
Value: 9+ years old, 110 proof, with the Russells’ name on it for $55. I’m in. Seriously, a delicious whiskey at a good price with no discernible flaws. What more could you ask for? Not much else to say here, but I’m sure your mileage will vary with each barrel pick.
